If it's March... It's National Nutrition Month
National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the American Dietetic Association (ADA). The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. The ADA site includes a wealth of credible nutrition information. The Nutrition Education Resources provide information and tips for eating right, healthy recipes and quizzes. The National Nutrition Month Blog includes pertinent videos and information from nutrition professionals.
One of the interesting interactive tools available on the website is a timeline of fad diets: from the 1925 Cigarette Diet ("Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet."), to the Vinegar and Water Diet of 1820 to the resurfacing of the 1950's Cabbage Soup Diet in 1990. If any truly worked, there wouldn't be a new one every year.
