10 Ways To Use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly

Vaseline Petroleum Jelly has been a part of my family for years while growing up. Vaseline had it's own place in my family's medicine cabinet. I'm sure there are hundreds of ways to use Vaseline.

Here are 10 great ways in which you can use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly:

1. Lip Moisturizer. I use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to moisturized my chapped lips, especially in the Winter time.

2.
Skin Moisturizer. I use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly as a form of skin moisturizer. When I'm out of body moisturizer or lotion, I reached for the petroleum jelly.

3. Diaper Rash Ointment. My mom used Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on the baby's bottom to help soothe his skin and/or help prevent a diaper rash.

4.
Hair Oil. While growing up, there was a lot of times in which my sisters and I used Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to oil our scalp.

5.
Lubricant For A Rectal Thermometer. When checking a newborn or infant body temperature, I put Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on one end of thermometer prior to applying it in the baby's rectal.

6.
Lubricant To Remove Rings. During my pregnancies, I had to apply Vaseline Petroleum Jelly around my finger to remove my wedding bands/rings.

7.
Makeup Remover. You can use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to remove makeup from your face without irritating the skin.

8.
Rub Under Nose. Apply a small amount of Vaseline under the children's nose to keep the nostrils from drying out and to soothe their (cold and/or sore) noses when they come from outdoors.

9.
Apply It on Your Cuticles. Apply a small amount of Vaseline on your cuticles a few times a day for better looking & soft cuticles.

10.
Apply On Eyebrows. Apply a small amount of Vaseline on your eyebrows, daily, to keep them in place and also make them soft.

Do you have any creative uses for Vaseline Petroleum Jelly? Or, can you think of ways that your Parents and/or Grandparents might have used Vaseline Petroleum Jelly? Let me know in the comment section below.

5 Tips On Making Wise & Healthy Decisions

As open enrollment approaches, many of Americans are faced with making important decisions in selecting health benefits for themselves, and their families, or just making changes to the already in placed health benefits. However, you must be careful not to make selfish decisions. Always have your spouse & children in mind when choosing benefits.

Here are 5 Tips On Making Wise & Healthy Decisions:

Communication: Open enrollment is open communication for you and your employer. Do not assume that your employer knows what you want or need. Ask questions about adding dependents, removing a health benefit that you no longer need, or changing your health benefit and it's entirety. Make sure to check with your employer's Human Resources department for the beginning & ending dates of open enrollment and the start date of your new policy.

Get Inform: Know about the various health benefits and options that your employer is offering you beforehand. Take advantage of the booklets, information sheets, or other resources that your employer provides to their employees, and read the information thoroughly. The more you know, the better it would be in choosing good health benefits for you and your family.

Must Prioritize: What is most important to you and your family? Dental & vision exams? Choosing generic prescriptions instead of brand name prescriptions? Or maybe seeing the same Doctor every time you visit the Doctor's office?

Wellness Discount: Some employers offer wellness discounts to employees that are non-smokers, who have a body mass index, blood pressure reading, glucose level, etc.. in their normal range (weekly). My husband was offered this discount from his employer and we saved $500/year in co-pays!

Compare Health Plans: If your employer is offering more than one health plan, compare them and see which plan would be the most beneficial to you and your family. However, if your employer only offers one health plan, make sure to use all of the health benefits that are included.

Nevertheless, open enrollment is the opportunity for you to review and possibly make the necessary changes to your health plan. The best choice is the one that meets your medical needs, while keeping your premiums & other payments at a minimal.

Halloween Treats: Frightening Fingers Recipe!

About 5 Dozen Cookies

INGREDIENTS
1 cup butter (no substitutes), softened
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Red decorating gel
1/2 cup sliced almonds

DIRECTIONS
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and extracts. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Divide dough into fourths. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until easy to handle.

Working with one piece of dough at a time, roll into 1-in. balls. Shape balls into 3-in. x 1/2-in. fingers. Using the flat tip of a table knife, make an indentation on one end of each for fingernail. With a knife, make three slashes in the middle of each finger for knuckle.

Place 2 in. apart on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 325 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool for 3 minutes.

Squeeze a small amount of red gel on nail bed; press a sliced almond over gel for nail, allowing gel to ooze around nail. Remove to wire racks to cool.

Help Raise Money for Breast Cancer Research!

Do you have a day set a side each month to do a breast exam? Women in the United States get breast cancer more than any other type of cancer except for skin cancer. It is second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer death in women.

Fact:

Each year it is estimated that nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. Approximately 1,700 men will also be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die each year. The evaluation of men with breast masses is similar to that in women, including mammography.

"Hello My Name is Hope" campaign, presented by Quill.com, a leading business-to-business online and direct marketer of office products. To boost breast cancer awareness, Quill.com is inviting all Facebook users to post and personalize virtual "Hello My Name is Hope" stickers on their profiles to honor both survivors and victims of the disease. The familiar "Hello My Name Is" stickers take on new meaning with personalized messages of hope and support shared across the Facebook community. For every sticker shared, Quill.com will donate $1 - up to $20,000 - to City of Hope, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to research, treatment and education.

So what are you waiting for? Visit the Quill.com Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/Quill to create a sticker and share a message of hope! For a complete selection of pink products and an overview of Quill.com's breast cancer campaign, check out www.quill.com/thinkpink.

How Powerful Is The Temptation To Gamble?

This guest post from Werner Rogers

Going to an annual business meeting in Las Vegas is not out of the ordinary. Actually, if you don't work for a company that has their annual meeting in Las Vegas, you will be missing out on some interesting experiences. Then again, that company is actually pretty intelligent, but only if you're a salary-based individual. If you're a commission-based individual, your company would be wise to hold their annual meeting in Las Vegas. The reasoning is simple. Most people who travel to Las Vegas lose a lot of money. That being the case, that person will be behind on bills or at least behind on spending money after visiting Las Vegas. In order to recapture that money, they're going to have to work their tail off. In other words, if that company holds their annual meeting in Las Vegas, they will be indirectly motivating their employees. This is somewhat of a clandestine operation, but a successful one nonetheless.

I am one of those commission-based individuals. And I'm speaking from experience. I lost 1/3 of my total income in Las Vegas last year. I was not a happy individual. That's why once I set my Security-Choice home security alarm and head for the airport this year, I will be buried in my favorite Bill Bryson book. The temptation will be there, but Bryson is entertaining enough to hold my attention. Worst comes to worst, I'll go to a show or something. But there's no way I'm hitting that blackjack table again. Craps if anything, but doubtful.

"Domestic Violence: No More Sweeping It Under The Carpet"

Domestic Violence is a very touchy subject. No one wants to admit that their spouse (or boyfriend/girlfriend, fiancee') is physically, emotionally, mentally, etc.. abusing them. However, we must come to terms that any type of Domestic Violence is UNACCEPTABLE! Domestic violence touches millions – more than seven out of 10 Americans know someone who is or has been a victim.

Why Get Involved? The Startling Facts
  • Each day in the U.S., 3 women die as a result of domestic violence. (1)
  • More than 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. (2)
  • Nearly 3 out of 4 Americans know someone who is or has been a victim.
  • Only 54 percent of Americans have talked to a friend about domestic violence, and only 56 percent would know what to do to help a victim of domestic violence. (3)
It's time for us to speak out against this terrible abuse. Speak out against domestic violence when you see it. Call the police or National Domestic Violence Hotline to report domestic violence in your community – you could help save a life. You can also show your support for domestic violence survivors by volunteering at or donating items to your local domestic violence shelter. Contact your state domestic violence coalition for more information. Click here for a complete list of state coalitions.

Please join the Tell a Gal Pal movement on Facebook to help raise money to support domestic violence survivors.

  • For each person who “likes” the Click To Empower! Facebook page, The Allstate Foundation will donate $1 to the National Network to End Domestic Violence (up to $20,000). Click here to go to the Facebook page.
  • The Allstate Foundation will donate another $1 if you take the pledge to Tell a Gal Pal about domestic violence. As part of the pledge, your photo will be added to the “Faces of Support” gallery to show survivors that they aren’t facing domestic violence alone.
  • Help them reach their goal of raising $20,000. Tell a Gal Pal to join the movement on Facebook.

Finally, please visit ClickToEmpower.org for easy ways start the conversation, check out resources for survivors or read inspirational survivor stories.

I wrote this blog post while participating in The Allstate Foundation’s Tell a Gal Pal blogging program with TwitterMoms, making me eligible to get an interview with Cheryl Burke. For more information on how you can participate, click here.
